Heading to church yesterday morning, for some reason I didn’t understand,
something told me to pay attention to my environment. Growing up as a child, I
was very good with this, but as I got older, and life started making demands on
me, it became harder as I had blended well into the mad rush of Lagos. But,
this morning I paid better attention than it has been for a while.
I needed to get cash
from the ATM, so it meant getting to the closest ATM point and making it in
good time, getting the cash and heading to church. But as I got there, I saw
everyone lined up waiting for just one, and the queue was too long for my liking. I
decided to try one of the other ones just incase. While I was headed that way,
I noticed a man that was going inside the banking hall, now on a Sunday, that
is a bit off, but I took a mental note.
Unfortunately for me, the ATM didn’t supply the cash I
needed as it was ‘temporarily unable to dispense cash’. I figured I better just
get back in line, but the people that got there after me didn’t seem to like
the idea. A young man that I knew from way back also showed up and as were
talking, I heard a noise from inside which made me smile. By this time, I
already heard someone say ‘what is her problem, are we fools for staying here?’
I thought ‘yes’, because by this time, the machine had gone from ‘out of
service’ to the normal screen display, and then, I inserted my card, got my
cash and gave room for my friend to do same. By this time, they had all lined
up behind that same machine, and I felt like answering that person’s question
out loud.
Now I know beyond the paying attention to the environment
part, it was God watching out for His babygirl, but here is the lesson, many a
times we are too stuck up in our world of ‘things to do’, we barely have time
to notice what is going on around us and we tend to miss out on a couple of
things. This trait has been worsened with the jet age that we live in.
Many a
times, God tries to speak to us through the happening s in our environment, but
we are too much in a hurry to notice, let alone get the message. This
experience today was an eye-opener for me and I thought it worth-sharing,
because, somehow, I even realized the seeming little things I may have taken
for granted. So pay attention, because next time you find a long queue anywhere,
what you find out might be what saves you from the stress of it.
I will be doing an interesting piece on the OLD and the
YOUNG. It will be worth your reading time.
power of observation was at work dear, and i agreed with you that it really worth sharing. so that we can keep learning from one another.
