I woke up this morning and found this link on my phone as
broadcast message- http://saharareporters.com/news-page/nigeria%E2%80%99s-first-lady-hospitalized-germany. I
was going to ignore at first, but then my curious self got the best of me, so
of course I hit ‘open link’. For those who have consciences, your first
reaction would be that of horror and shock and possibly you may say a quick
prayer for preservance of life before you continue to read and/or think of
other possibilities like tummy tuck, facials, and the other things that is
quite familiar to all Nigerians (I would not deny the fact that I did at some
point, until I saw it clearly- food poisoning). Again, if you have conscience
(moral and political) you go- ‘thank God at least she will be alright and at
least it is not more on the Nigerian table of irrelevant things coming up
at the wrong time).
I am assuming by now you have read what the link is about. No
big deal you may say, but I do have a big deal, not just with the fact someone
was sick and was hospitalized, but that Nigerians could open their mouths and
say the most inhumane things I haven’t heard in a while. I knew a friend who
was seriously being abused by her dad (he was her worse nightmare), but when he was on a
sick bed and it was evident he was going to die, she didn’t care about the
pains he caused her, she just wanted her daddy alive). Like that dad, our First
lady does not deserve to die like some comments I read on this link.
Truth is her position and that of her husband is one that
most Nigerians wish for everyday of their lives, not because they hold any good
intentions for this nation, but just so they can also have all the liberty to loot
‘their own share of the so-called wealth of this nation’. Let us not deceive
ourselves, first lady or not, if we had that kind of money and our health is
threatened, we would seek the best medical attention anywhere we want, and if
that shouldn’t be a problem why does the fact that Mrs. Jonathan is involved
,make any difference?
Just because she is first lady and you do not like her English
speaking g or the rulership style of her
husband does not mean that she deserves to die. Do people even think of the
implication of the statements they made? It shows your evil thoughts towards
your fellow human. Truth is that one thing we should learn to come to accept is
the fact that God reigns in the affairs of men and He gives the kingdom to
whomsoever He pleases and He said He had created all things for Himself. It was
said of Pharaoh too that He created him for a time as when he existed, for a
purpose.
Before some people think I am a
politician, much as I follow and pay attention to political issues, I am not
exactly a pro-Jonathan person (and I don’t believe in Nigerian political party
system). I voted for who I thought was best for this nation at this time, not
for a party, and if a different person from whom I expected is in power, the
interest of this nation is greater than any single individual’s interest (a
lesson of fact I look forward to the day Nigerian leaders and especially followers
will come to learn), so I am not a pro-Jona person.
I was simply appalled by the
comments I read on this page. If we think that the Jonathans do not deserve
this position and got them on a platter of gold, let me ask you something- what
do you have that you actually did deserve? Start with the air you are still
breathing as you read this. If she were our mother, would we care about the English
she doesn’t speak well? Or the education she doesn’t have? Or that she flew
abroad to ‘waste’ money on treatment? Wouldn’t we love her still and do all we
can to get her well?
I know we all feel the pain of
the unmet expectations of the seeming basics of leadership we are experiencing from
this nation at this time. But if we are too cowardly to call our leaders to accountability
through due process, then we might as well blame ourselves for the way thing are,
not to mention some of us are doing far worse in our spaces, that no one hears
about them doesn’t change the fact it is the same kind of sin. I have never
heard of a nation that got better by wishing their first lady dead and insulting
their president when he doesn’t even care what you say about him.
We need to get our priorities
straight in this country. We should remember the adage about ‘not throwing
stones in a market place’. I wish our first lady quick recovery. Even if we
think it was a false story, at least be sure of it first. What if it really is
true? Do we really want to experience the pain of losing another first lady? Does
it even speak well of the spiritual air of our country? Feel free to be mad
about bad leadership, but please do not wish someone dead while doing so.
We are no judges, and we attract
what we respect. For those who seek such positions to do real good, you may
never get it if you are one of those involved in such idle talks. A leader is a
reflection of the followership, and if you think that reflection is wrong, you
change it. If you look at yourself in the mirror and you do not like what you
see, do you start insulting yourself? I bet you don’t! you make adjustments
until you get the right reflection you hope to see. Why can we not do same for
our country?
God reigns in the affairs of men
and gives the kingdom to whomsoever He pleases. We can change that with our
actions and on our knees. If it was all about what we deserve, then I challenge
every Nigerian to look at their personal lives and the way we go about our
business and tell me if they are even ready for the kind of leader we think we are
looking for. I bet some do not even have a clear cut vision of what that leader
should be. If you did, you will smell when someone is not, and you will not
blindly vote him/her into power. So think again! And please take thoughts of
the first lady dying out of those thoughts. Thank you.
Miss Young.
The truth in its real form....Well said!!
