I guess I need not introduce me and my two friends anymore.
But like I said, the time we spent together during platform opened my eyes to a
number of things which I hope to capture here too. From the previous write-up
(the gold mine in you) I mentioned that we were volunteering as workers for The
Platform, and that due to our ‘unseriousness’ we ended up in crowd control.
Being in crowd control meant, we had to stay outside under
the sun, check through bags and ensure people were using the right entry and
exit points. Truth be told, I couldn’t stop laughing at the idea of me checking
for bombs and guns in people’s bags, like what was I suppose to do if I
actually found a bomb? But we did as we
were instructed and thank God there were no bombs.
We stood under the sun, my ‘proud friend was having MP (guys
ask a lady for the meaning), my ‘liked’ friend was juggling between work and
platform, and I was sweating it out under the sun. But it was the work of the Lord, plus we were
having a swell time being mischievous, stopping now and then to gist (most of
which always ended up in heated arguments).
Somehow we made a few friends who liked our spirits and a
few who didn’t like our guts I believe, one of whom happened to be someone who
was in charge of what we were doing as well as the registration guys.
Then came the time for sharing food. My church has this
great habit of ensuring volunteers get food and drinks for the hard work, and
we didn’t know there was food on this day. By the time we found out, we had
already eaten. Then came the slogan, ‘but we have to go for it because it is
our inheritance’. We laughed and joked at that, but in no time, it dawned on us
that, provision had been made for us and it was rightfully ours because we
worked.
Thinking of the lady who was obviously not so happy with us
for God knows what reasons, we wanted to re-coil. My ‘proud’ friend actually
did, but the other one and I chose to face this lady and go for ours. Did she
try to frustrate us in getting it? Yes! Did
we get it? Of course. And my other friend didn’t because she didn’t want
to go through what we did to get hers for her 'dignity' sake, and I understood where she was coming
from.
But here is the real lesson, often times, we know something
is ours, and it’s just a stretch away from us. However, between us and that
thing is an obstacle and too often we do not want to get into any form of
confrontation for various reasons. We do not want to get our pride hurt, or we
do not want to offend someone in the process or we are wondering what people
would think of us. But that is wrong
especially when it comes to the dreams and aspirations, gifts and talents
embedded deep within us, waiting to be
explored.
That rice or ‘inheritance’ to me that I ‘fought’ for, got,
ate and enjoyed, represented to me the dreams and gifts waiting to be unveiled
within. And the process involved in bringing them to pass, despite the
obstacles trying to deny the rights of having them materialize will be nothing
compared to the joy and satisfaction I will derive from reaping the fruits of
my labour.
Boy I cracked those bones and enjoyed the juice, yummy!
Think you should do the same. Not the bone silly, I meant reach for your
dreams/inheritance/rice which ever one you choose to call it.
Love,
Miss Young.
You are spot on Anita! Most people haven labored and worked hard would not do the little things required to walk into/get their 'inheritance'..putting things like: not wanting to leave their 'comfort zone' and "how would it look?" ahead of them receiving what they ought to. I hope we all learn to push aside 'pride' and 'dignity' and summon the courage to go for what is rightfully ours.....
ReplyDeleteThanks Tee. and for as many as reach out, my prayer is that God will crown our efforts with success. Have a blessed week.
